Pulmonary embolism is a fatal form of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Emma Bendz, M.D., presents a nationwide investigation of prevalence and survival of VTE-associated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The results confirm that OHCA associated with VTE, even though uncommon, is almost always fatal and more prevalent among women, thus highlighting the need to improve prevention and identification of VTE-associated OHCA.
